Industry context

Our automotive work is with tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers producing brake, steering, seating and powertrain sub-assemblies. Lines run to fixed takt times, usually between 4 and 60 seconds, and every part leaves with a record of how it was built.

Most projects are additions to running lines: a vision check, a robotic joining station, a traceability layer or a controls upgrade that must fit an existing station layout and the customer's PPAP and change-control process.

Common challenges

  • Escaped defects that only show up at the OEM, with every complaint costing far more than the part.

  • Traceability gaps between part serial numbers and process data such as torque, press force or test results.

  • Takt pressure — new checks must fit inside the existing cycle, not add to it.

  • Model changeover across many variants on one line, with error-proofing for each.

Standards and design constraints

Standards & considerations

  • Customer-specific requirements for traceability data retention and part marking (data matrix code quality).

  • Safety integration to EN ISO 13849 performance levels agreed with the plant safety engineer.

  • Change control: every software change versioned, documented and approved before it reaches production.

  • Line-side data must reach the plant MES in the format the OEM audit expects.
